Lecturas I + II
Lecturas was developed by Luis Mejico in collaboration with the Chicago Public Libraries. Lecturas, part of Hispanic Heritage Month, served as a platform for members of the Chicago Hispanic and Latinx community to come together and share their experiences through a live reading of poetry and prose. The readings from this series question and celebrate what it means to carry the Hispanic identity in this city. Reflecting on personal and shared histories, these works inspire discussion around the social, economic, and political issues faced by the Hispanic community. Lecturas allows the voices of these artists to be heard as they share stories of pride, strength, resilience, frustration, and triumph from the Hispanic community of the City.
Lecturas ran for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016, and featured:
Antonio Miguel Morales, Juan Carlos Corredor, Erika Doyle, Prince Moreno, Johanny Vázquez Paz, Gerardo Cardenas, Carlos Antonio Piñon, Marisol Vélez, Sasha Perez, Selena Sandoval, Yuridia Gutierrez, Becky Aguirre, Priscilla Monivais, Elisabeth Del Toro, Kim Chayeb, Mev Luna, and Fatima Gomez.
